The Christmas Card

j0361924 I’ve recently had a couple of people ask me what to do with the Christmas cards they are receiving.  Everyone loves getting them.  We open them and enjoy the notes from our family and friends..but then what?   Where do you put them?  After the holidays, where do the cards go?  Should you save the cards or recycle them?

There are lots of ideas out there on what to do with Christmas cards, here are just a few.

  • Hang the cards up around a door way or stair railing.  Some people also attach the cards to ribbon or fish wire to make a display.  If a display isn’t what you want then just put the cards in a basket.  Whatever you do…don’t let them sit on your counter for the whole month of December!!
  • Make something from the cards.  I’ve heard of people who make ornaments or gift labels from last year’s Christmas cards.  If you want to be crafty then this is a great way to recycle.
  • If don’t want to be crafty then you can use the cards as scratch paper.  Use the back of the front page (if there is no writing) to make you grocery list or your daily to-do list. If you get a lot of cards, you could have enough scratch paper to last for a few months.
  • What about all the pictures you receive?  If you like to scrapbook, you could put them in your scrapbook.  If you don’t like to scrapbook, you could start a book just for Christmas pictures.  Another option is putting all the pictures on a bulletin board.  The bulletin board option is nice because you get to see the pictures all year long.
  • In the end…I say reuse and then recycle, recycle, recycle.

One of my friends mentioned sending out an e-mail Christmas card.  I know some people will not agree with me, but if you really want to do what is best for the environment and  your pocket book, then I think this is a great option.  You would be sending your holiday greetings to your friends and family…but there would be no usage of resources and no clutter involved!!  Love it!
