Cooking Now to Save Time Later

j0400604Here is a great tip to simplify your cooking and save you time.  As you are planning your menu for the week, look over your meals and plan on cooking double or triple of anything that you can freeze.  Some examples of family friendly foods that can be frozen would be things like taco meat, chili, sloppy joe meat, spaghetti sauce, and lasagna.

Let’s say you are planning on making taco’s on Tuesday.  Your family typically uses a pound of hamburger for this meal.  The plan would be to purchase and make extra of the taco meat for freezing.  Cooking 1 lb of meat or 3 lbs of meat will take about the same amount of time.  When the meat is done, enjoy your taco dinner.  After dinner when the extra meat has cooled, divide it into meal size portions and place it in good plastic bags made for the freezer.  Make sure you label and date all the bags, then put the bags in the freezer for future use.

If you do this with a different meal each week, you will always have something in the freezer for dinner.  This process is easy and also very helpful for those days when you don’t have a lot of time or motivation to cook dinner.
