Bicycle Helmets and Shoes a Clue to Organizing

Shoes_Hats__RAGBRAI_07_09 048My area served as the send-off location for RAGBRAI,  the annual bike ride across the state. My husband and I hosted the Northwest Iowa Tobacco Free Coalition team called Kick Butts. As the several dozen bicyclists took down their tents and prepared for the first leg of the 450 mile week-long ride, I was amazed at their organization.

These bicyclists were planning for the day ahead. The less extra weight carried means an easier ride up the hills. There was no purse or tote bag to carry necessary items. As one couple prepared for their departure, they used their shoes and helmets as containers for the take-along items.

When we use a predefined space to accumulate things, it serves to limit the amount of items it can hold. When the container overflows, we know we have too much.

What container works to limit your papers or other items?
