Fall is Here – Time to Switch your Clothes and Clean out your Closet

j0423057 With fall being just around the corner, it is a good time to clean out your summer wardrobe.  Set aside 15 minutes – that is all you should need to get this job done.  Take a good look at what is hanging in your closet or folded in your drawers.  If you have anything that you haven’t worn this summer, then it should probably be donated.  Typically these items will be in the back of the closet or in a back corner of a drawer.  Also, anything that doesn’t fit or has stains…needs to go.

After you’ve completed this step, if you have another 15 minutes, then you can get your closet ready for fall and winter.  As you are moving your clothes around, this is a great time to hook all your hangers backwards.  As items are worn and washed you can put the hangers back on the correct way.  In the spring, when you are switching over to your summer wardrobe, it will be easy to identify the clothes you didn’t wear…because all the hangers will still be backwards.  Gotta love this.

Typically a closet follows the 20/80 rule.  We wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time.  You can have a better ratio than that if you do the hanger trick.  Another helpful tip is to ask yourself before buying something ” Am I going to wear this tomorrow?”  You will then be focused on the immediate usefulness of the item you are purchasing.  If you can’t plan on wearing it tomorrow then purchase with caution because it could become the next item on a backwards hanger in your closet.
