Fun Ways to Enjoy a Snow Day with the Kids

The Midwest has been hit with a snow storm and the kids are on their third snow day in a row.  To quote one of my friends, “The first snow day is a treat, the second snow day is rare, and the third snow day is just too much.”  With the bitter cold we are having, it can be challenging.  Playing outside is at a minimum because of dangers of frostbite so we are pretty much stuck in the house with the kids.  I like to look at this time as an opportunity.  It is an opportunity to do things I’ve wanted to do but just haven’t set aside the time.  Here are a few ideas of things to do with the kids:

  • Do a puzzle
  • Set up a shredding station and clean out some files
  • Bake cookies
  • Clean out a closet
  • A video game tournament – make brackets and have some fun.
  • Wrap presents
  • Plan a fun and creative meal with the food in your pantry.
  • Do your Christmas cards.
  • Get all your packages ready to ship
  • Rearrange furniture: this is fun and you can always move it back.
  • Watch a good movie
  • Sing Christmas carols
  • Have the kids gather 5 to 10 toys each for donating to charity.  This is a good thing to do before Christmas.
  • Play some card games or board games
  • Make a Gingerbread House
  • Build a fort

I hope this inspires you to have a little fun.  Consider this snow day as a gift…the gift of family time.  It is something to celebrate and enjoy.  Have a great day.
