Failure to Launch

Do you have a big project that needs to get done, but you just can’t seem to get it accomplished?   You make a plan on how and when you’re going to do it, but you can’t seem to bring your plan to fruition?   You keep shelving it for some unexplained reason?   Do you find yourself just orbiting around it?  Going around in circles rather than taking off and getting it done?

What you have is a Failure to Launch.

So, how do you get off the Launch Pad?

Getting that task done is really no different than any other goal you may have.  You need a degree of motivation to do it, or the goal will fall flat.  Try one of these motivational techniques to see if it will propel you to success.

  • Find the reason for the project and buy into it.  Do you have company coming this weekend and you MUST clear the clutter from the spare bedroom?  Having the push of a looming deadline will spur you into ‘Action’ mode.
  • Call for help.  Do you have someone that you can call to come along side you and help you get the job done?  Perhaps a daughter or friend?  I have found that using ‘The Buddy System’ can work wonders for getting things accomplished.   The Organizing world has a term for this called ‘Body Doubling’, but in layman’s terms, the using Buddy System to keep you focused and on task until the task is done, works great!!

Find the motivation that makes you tick, and you will soon rocket to the Land of Accomplishment!  It’s a Grand place and there’s room for you there!!!  I’ve found that one accomplished task fuels you to keep on going!!

  1. I find that in many cases, the first step is the hardest. Once you get started, it often ends up not being the big challenge you thought it would be.
